i want to post comics to the internet. all in one place, large-sized, in a place where it'd be easy to read them. (a place which isn't livejournal.com -- i wanna diversify!)

so far i've been frustrated by google webpages (cuts off the edges), flickr (un-comics-friendly presentation), and wordpress.com (only allows me one comix page per post).

can you help? i feel like grandma, trying to find thegoogle.com

don't they have a comicspress.com?

you must know some webcartoonists

No...as I understand it, there is a comicspress "theme" which can be used with wordpress, but only if you download wordpress onto your own computer and pay a third party for server space and then somehow upload it out of your computer onto your own domain yadda yadda onionlike levels of complication that I don't really understand.

Maybe I should ask in a comix community, hmm?

UNRELATED POSTSCRIPT: I really wanna read Monsters 3. Is anyone gonna be selling it online? Or does one have to go to Maryland to get a copy? You're not going to APE, are you?

I know how to do that, though, and would set it up for you in minutes. :)

Is it easy for you? 'Cause if it really is easy that would be awesome.

What should I do?

Do you have a server and/or domain of your own? If not, I'll lend you mine (at http://nameofyourchoice.thereisnoy.com), I'd just need to know how many comics (in MB) you have, in order to set sufficient space aside.

Then I'd make a user account for you on my server, and you'd only need to name the files correctly (in short, comicpress works if the comic you post on Oct 1 2008 has the filename of 01-10-2008.jpg, for example) and upload them to nameofyourchoice.thereisnoy.com.

To upload files to your server/domain, you need an FTP client. I use Filezilla ( http://downloads.sourceforge.net/filezilla/FileZilla_3.1.2_win32-setup.exe ) and I have never had problems with it.

So, what I'd need you to do, if you agree, is 1) to tell me how much space you need, 2) what name you'd like for your subdomain (the nameofyourchoice mentioned above), and 3) tell me when you've installed Filezilla so I can tell you how to connect to thereisnoy.com. It's a very straightforward program for file uploads and you'll get it in no time.

You are very kind!

I actually have a domain, which I registered through Google and I believe they host? But I'm not sure? Because I'm a twentieth century girl?

I downloaded a different ftp client (I have an adolescent macintosh which doesn't jibe w/filezilla) and I made you an administrator account @ my domain. Do you think you can put wordpress/comicpress there? Or is that more difficult?

I think there should be no problem with that! Get back to you asap.

There's a gizmo some of my knit-pattern posting friends have used that will take a pdf document and turn it into some viewable on the screen thing that people can easily look at online or save and print out. http://www.scribd.com/tools/ipaper . Basically you upload your file to a spooky third party then they magically turn it into flash and give you some code that you paste into wordpress or your own page. But it's free.

What happened to mariasputnik.com?

w...w...um.

thank you for the tip! but i don't understand. right now my comics files are jpgs, which SHOULD show up in wordpress, even if i want to paste in eight of them one after another. it seems like wordpress might just as easily reject my ipaper code as my jpg-from-flickr code. no?

i took mariasputnik.com down because i was annoyed by google chewing off the right edge of the comics. eventually --if i conquer the internet instead of it conquering me-- mariasputnik.com will return with a plentitude of comics action.

Oops - that would only work if if you made them into pdfs first. The gizmo is a pretty good alternative to posting a link to a pdf of your whole comic that people could download or whatever they want with, but it wouldn't make it any better for posting it as pictures.

I know my blogspot lets me put as many pics as I want just about, but it usually resizes them in a way that makes line art turn out fuzzy.
